The manual workflow
Accommodation owners repeatedly send the same arrival instructions, Wi-Fi details, house guidance and local recommendations to every guest.
How the product responds
Apartko brings that information into a mobile-friendly web guide that guests can open through a permanent QR code or public link, without installing an app.
Challenge & decisions
Engineering challenge
Guide-opening analytics needed to be useful without storing a visitor’s raw IP address. I derive a keyed source hash on the server, deduplicate repeat opens within a short window and enforce the anonymous event shape through Firestore rules. The trade-off is intentionally less device-level detail in exchange for a smaller privacy footprint.
Decisions I made
- Use a browser-based guest experience so visitors do not need to install an application.
- Keep the QR destination stable so printed material does not need to change when guide content is updated.
- Organize operational information and local recommendations into a single guest-facing guide.
- Offer a Booking.com import as a starting point instead of asking owners to re-enter every known property detail.
